Illustration for print

Ananastronaut

There is, hopefully to no surprise, a lot of work that goes into these illustrations. Even though they seem (or are) kind of silly.

In the example of the Ananastronaut I’ll take you through my process after conceiving the idea. In this case I suddenly realized that the words ananas and astronaut ends and begins with the same two letters!
EPIPHANY!!

That’s a great way to stimulate creativity; take two or more objects that doesn’t belong together, and combine them!

Analog artwork

Whereas the gallery above consists of a mix of analog and digital art, this gallery is exclusively analog.

This is a mix of life drawings, sketchbooks and water colored illustrations.

This is what I believe people forget when they claim that they could never learn to draw. Practice and curiosity - you start by drawing what you see, to understand how three dimensional shapes translates onto a two dimensional surface. Meanwhile you’re building a mental library of details in the real life.
Eventually you can draw something out of pure thought!
To improve you simply repeat the process - at the time of writing I’m beginning to draw bikes without references.

That’s it! No magic or shortcuts and no “natural talent“ necessary.
If you’re tenacious enough, I’ll guarantee you can learn my craft.

Visual Identity

Band logo

Out of Line brass band

The images in this gallery depicts pieces of the process of making the logo for Out of Line Brass Band.

Their music is heavily influenced by the New Orleans marching brass orchestral genre.

First order of business after they contacted me was having a sit-down with the band to hash out what they actually wanted. Then return to the sketchbooks!

The logotype I drew by hand and refined it in Adobe Illustrator. The shape is meant to accompany the happy and playful tone of the music while the metallic surface is a reflection of the brass instruments that make up a majority of the band.

Labels

Kælderkold

The experimental micro brewery Kælderkold frequently asks for new labels for their beer.
Their batches are small and rarely ever repeat a recipe.

“Kælderkold” translates to “Cold basement“. which is how I came up with the rat looking for another round.

The labels below are made for beers brewed for special events.

The first is for a birthday, where the label served as a name tag for the seating arrangement.
The second is a series of labels for beer that was made for a big wedding.

Visual Effects

Movie opening sequence

During my internship at Postyr Postproduktion I earned my place among the stars.. or at least my name in the credits of two movies; Alle for Tre (Three Heists and a Hamster) and Tom of Finland.

I was the task of making opening sequence. Afterwards I was asked to create backgrounds that was forgotten in-camera, different VFX tasks and heaps of rotoscoping!

Motion Graphics

Halloween breaker

This entry might be a little dated, but I think it aged well nonetheless.

Back in school, as part of the introduction to Cinema 4D, we were given a short brief; Make a 20 second Halloween themed breaker for a children’s/youth channel of your own choosing using Cinema 4D.

The house and interiors are modeled in Cinema 4D and the characters are animated frame by frame in Photoshop.

Image and sound

A collaboration project/case between DMJX and Sonic College.

It is a little rough around the edges, or rather smooth.. All lighting and textures had to remain somewhat simple to make sure we had time for rendering in time for the presentation.

All audio was produced by Composer & Sound Designer Ida Skjerk while I made the 3d-models. As soon as we had the timing locked, Ida continued to refine the audio and I began timing the animation to the sounds.

Less than three days after the initial brief, we had a product.

Enjoy!

VR-Comics

As a final project to finish my education, I decided to design and develop an original take on the medium I love the most; comics.

I successfully developed two working prototypes using a combination of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Cinema 4D and Unity.

A ton of research went into converting the experience to an digitally immersive and interactive medium.
One of the biggest struggles was staying faithful to the original medium, and not inventing animations or games.

Storyboards and comics

Storyboard

Krampus & Santa Claus

(Julemandens datter)

Two scenes from the storyboard used by Postyr Postproduktion to bid on the tender.

Jurassic Bible stories

These one-page comics are parts a greater upcoming project named:
“Holy sh*t’s fact up!”

Basically the project is alternate versions of the stories and characters.

Next up in the series is the story of Jesussaurus walking on water.
